A TikTok presence helps AI visibility indirectly, and it's important to be honest about the mechanism: the assistants deciding who to recommend read text, not video, so raw TikTok clips are mostly invisible to them unless the captions, on-screen text and auto-transcripts clearly name your business and category. Where TikTok actually moves the needle is second-order — a video that takes off drives branded searches, gets embedded and written about on blogs and news sites, and pushes people to your name on the platforms models do read (reviews, directories, press). In other words, TikTok builds the demand and the citations; those citations are what the model sees. For local and consumer brands there's a real compounding effect when a viral moment turns into "everyone's talking about X" across trusted text sources. The limits are stark: a low-engagement account with vague captions does almost nothing for AI, and TikTok will never substitute for structured reviews or a clear site. Treat it as a demand-and-citation engine — write descriptive captions, get named in text coverage, and make sure your canonical entity is airtight to catch the interest it generates.
