GuideDoes having a Wikipedia page help AI recommend you?
Wikipedia is one of the single most influential sources in an AI model's training and grounding data, so being covered there — or even correctly referenced from notable Wikipedia articles — carries outsized weight in how assistants describe and resolve your brand as an entity. But there's a hard catch: Wikipedia's notability rules mean most businesses simply don't qualify, and creating a promotional page you don't merit gets deleted and can backfire. The realistic play for most companies isn't a vanity page — it's earning the independent, notable coverage that would justify one, and making sure any existing mentions of you across Wikipedia are accurate. That same coverage is what feeds every other AI source too.
FAQ
Why does Wikipedia carry so much weight with AI?Because models are trained heavily on it and treat it as a high-trust reference for who an entity is. A factual, well-sourced Wikipedia presence strongly shapes how AI describes your category, history and relationships — more than almost any page you control yourself.
Should I just create my own Wikipedia page?Usually no. Wikipedia requires genuine notability backed by independent, reliable sources, and self-created promotional pages get flagged and removed. Pursue the underlying press and citations first; if you become notable, a well-sourced page follows naturally and survives.
What can I do if I don't qualify yet?Focus on the signals that feed AI regardless — authoritative press, consistent citations, a resolvable entity — and correct any inaccurate existing mentions. Run a free Cited scan — it checks the AI-search readiness signals on your website (crawler access, llms.txt, structured data and answer-ready content) and lists the fixes to make first.
