How to see if ChatGPT mentions your business

The only way to know whether ChatGPT recommends you is to ask it the way your buyers do — and to do it systematically, not once. Test the real buying prompts for your category and location (best [category] in [city], who should I hire for [problem], [category] near me that does [specific service]), note whether you appear, in what position, and which competitors are named alongside you. Because answers vary by phrasing, account and whether the model browses, run several variations and repeat over time rather than trusting a single result. The goal is not vanity — it is to see which prompts you win, which you lose, and which sources the model cites for the winners, so you know exactly where to invest.

FAQ

What prompts should I test? The ones your customers actually use: best [category] in [city], top-rated [category] near me, who should I hire to [solve a specific problem], and comparisons like [you] vs [competitor]. Test several phrasings and both browsing and non-browsing modes, because results shift with wording and whether the model retrieves live web pages.

Why do I get different answers each time I ask?Because assistants are probabilistic and increasingly retrieve live results, so phrasing, timing, personalization and whether browsing is on all change the output. That is why a single check is unreliable — track the same prompts repeatedly to see your true, stable position rather than one lucky or unlucky roll.
