When an assistant names a competitor and skips you, it is rarely because they are better — it is because the model found more consistent, corroborating evidence about them than about you. Models recommend the entity they are most confident about, and confidence is built from agreement across sources: a crawlable site that states plainly what you do and where, the same name, address and category repeated identically across directories and review platforms, genuine reviews, and third-party mentions that all point to the same business. A competitor who wins usually has fewer gaps — their crawler access is clean, their schema labels their category, their listings match, and the web tells one coherent story about them. Your job is to find where your story is thin or contradictory: pages blocked from crawlers, missing or wrong structured data, a business name that appears three different ways, stale or absent reviews, no presence on the sources your category is judged by. Close those gaps one by one and you give the model the same confidence it already has in them.
